Tour Plan
Day 1: Rongai Gate to Simba Camp
Your journey begins with a drive from Moshi to the Rongai Gate on the northern side of the mountain. As you enter the park, you immediately find yourself in a lush environment where agriculture meets wilderness.
The trek starts through a forested area with a calm and quiet atmosphere. Unlike the southern routes, this side of Kilimanjaro is drier, offering a unique ecosystem with fewer rainforests and more open landscapes. Along the way, you may encounter wildlife such as colobus monkeys and various bird species.
After several hours of trekking, you arrive at Simba Camp, located at the edge of the moorland zone, where you will rest and enjoy your first night on the mountain.
Day 2: Simba Camp to Kikelewa Camp
On the second day, you continue your ascent through the moorland zone, where the vegetation becomes more open and dotted with unique plant life such as giant lobelias and heathers.
As you gain altitude, the views begin to open up, offering glimpses of the Kenyan plains and the surrounding landscapes. The trail remains relatively gentle, allowing your body to adjust to the increasing elevation.
You arrive at Kikelewa Camp in the afternoon, where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings before spending the night.
Day 3: Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp
Today’s trek becomes steeper as you approach the base of Mawenzi, one of Kilimanjaro’s volcanic peaks. The landscape transforms into rugged terrain with dramatic scenery, rocky paths, and fewer plants.
Mawenzi Tarn Camp is set in a spectacular location beneath the towering Mawenzi peak. The area offers a raw and untouched atmosphere, with stunning views and a sense of isolation that enhances the adventure.
This is an important acclimatization day, allowing your body to adjust to the higher altitude before the summit push.
Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Mawenzi Tarn
This day is dedicated to rest and acclimatization. A short hike may be included to help your body adapt to the altitude, following the “climb high, sleep low” principle.
The surrounding landscape is unique and peaceful, with volcanic formations and dramatic mountain scenery. This rest day significantly improves your chances of successfully reaching the summit.
Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut
You continue your trek across the saddle—a vast, high-altitude desert that lies between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This section is one of the most unique landscapes on Kilimanjaro, with minimal vegetation and a vast, open terrain that stretches for miles.
As you approach Kibo Hut, the base camp for your summit attempt, the environment becomes more barren and arctic-like. You will rest early in preparation for the challenging summit push ahead.
Day 6: Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak
Your summit attempt begins in the early hours of the morning. Under a star-filled sky, you begin the ascent to the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters).
The climb is challenging, with steep and icy terrain as you approach the summit. As the sun rises, you are rewarded with breathtaking views and an unforgettable sense of achievement.
Reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro is a life-changing moment, marking the pinnacle of your journey.
After celebrating at the summit, you begin your descent to Kibo Hut for rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut.
Day 7: Descent to Marangu Gate
On your final day, you descend through different ecological zones, from alpine desert back to lush rainforest.
As you make your way down, you reflect on the incredible journey you have completed. Upon arrival at Marangu Gate, you receive your summit certificate, a proud reminder of your achievement.
Your guide will then transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi.
